Back-to-school skin care for kids

Doctor: Simple is better when you’re young

As kids kick off a new school year they may also begin a fresh skin care routine, but they might not know where to start.

“Skin care is an integral part of having healthy skin, but in some ways less is more with skin care,” said Dr. Anthony Youn who has millions of followers online. “You can overdo your skin care, so just do what you need,” he added.

Young people should focus on simple and easy skin care routine, Dr. Youn said. He recommends cleansing your skin every morning with a gentle cleanser. Then, he said you should apply sunscreen of at least SPF 30, especially if you’re going to be outside. At night, Dr. Youn said it’s important to cleanse your skin to get rid of the day’s worth of dirt. Next, he said to apply a moisturizer.

“Simple is better when you’re young,” he said.

When it comes to pimples, the doctor explained that it can be contributed to various causes, such as hormones and diet. Dr. Youn suggests eating a healthy diet and reducing fast food and sugar consumption.

The TikTok famous doctor said that anti-acne skin care routines can typically entail ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. If that doesn’t work, then he recommends using a retinoid, such as tretinoin. He also explained that it’s time to see a dermatologist if you’re getting cystic acne or scarring.
