Parents get into the back-to-school routine

Moms talk about the start of a new school year

Summer break is coming to an end and kids are heading back to the classroom, which also means some big changes for parents.

Founder of Little Guide Detroit Kerry Doman and Motor City Date Night creator Vanessa Cohen, who are both moms, appeared on “Live In The D” to talk about all that back-to-school season entails. They spoke with “Live In The D” host Tati Amare and guest host Gwen Jimmere who is the founder of Naturalicious.

First, the conversation focused on the excitement surrounding the start of the new school year. Kerry’s kids have already gone back to school, and she said they are excited for the first couple of days. Meanwhile, Vanessa’s response was “absolutely not” when asked if her kids were excited for the new school year. Gwen said her 13-year-old son is excited to see friends that he didn’t see over the summer, but that he would like to sleep until noon.

Next, the group talked about what going back to school means for routines. Kerry said she has to start getting up earlier. “We have to get up and get moving because if we’re not moving, they’re not moving,” Kerry said.

The conversation also included back-to-school shopping and supplies. Gwen said her favorite was her Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper. Kerry explained that her family’s school offers a back-to-school box that is filled with the necessary supplies for a designated class, so she just has to pay the flat fee.
