Romeo teacher celebrates his legacy

This year’s Peach Festival Grand Marshal is a favorite in the community

Do you remember your favorite high school teacher? The one whose influence changed the trajectory of your life. For more than 7,000 Romeo High School students over the last five decades, many would say, “Yes, and his name was Erwin Slava.”

After a remarkable 51-year career, Mr. Slava has decided to retire, marking the end of an era for Romeo High School. It’s a bittersweet moment for the community, but one thing is certain—Mr. Slava knows he will be missed.

“I’ve heard it from so many students, faculty and administration,” he shared, reflecting on his career. “They are all part of my life.”

Mr. Slava’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. He’s been recognized for his contributions to Romeo many times, but one of the grandest honors is being given to him. This year, Mr. Slava has been chosen as the Grand Marshal of the Peach Festival.

“I’m very proud,” he said with a smile.

As Mr. Slava prepares for this next chapter, there’s no doubt that his legacy will continue to be felt throughout the school and community. The joy in his eyes as he reflects on his tenure speaks volumes about the impact he’s had on generations of students.
