Get into the spooky spirit of Halloween or head to a self-care this weekend

Another weekend filled with events is on tap for Detroit and the surroundings areas.

You can show yourself some love at a Self-Care fair in Ypsilanti. Sit back and relax while getting chair massages or get free hair and skin care consultations of a health screening. There will also be a dance class and a bouncy house. The second annual Self-Care Fair is being put on by The Beauty Block, which is a trio of beauty businesses that cater to the needs of diverse skin and hair types. The free event runs Sunday, Sept. 15th from noon to 4 p.m. at The Beauty Block on E. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti.

A comedy show with a special purpose is being held in downtown Rochester. The event will benefit the family of Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brad Reckling who was killed while on duty in June. Tickets sales will go to support Reckling’s wife and children. “Comedy for a Cause” will be held at the Roxy on Thursday, Sept. 12th. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.

You’ve seen the skyscrapers in Detroit like the Fisher, the Guardian Building and the Book Tower, but now there’s a different way to experience the iconic architecture through a photo installation highlighting some of Detroit’s most famous buildings. The exhibit is based on the book: “Highrises Art Deco: 100 Spectacular Skyscrapers from the Roaring ‘20s to the Great Depression”. The exhibit will be on display at the Guardian Building through Sept. 30th. There’s also a special reception Thursday, Sept. 12th where visitors can meet the creators. The event starts at 4:30 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased online.

If you’re ready to jump into the spooky spirit of Halloween, you might want to head to Armada because Haunted Weekends are coming to Blake’s Big Apple. Haunted Weekends start on Friday, the 13th of Sept. There will be zombie paintball, a three-story haunted barn, a Spookyland 3D maze, and a haunted hayride. Haunted Weekends will run through Oct. 27th.
