Artists offers different take on pet portraits

Creations are made with needle felting

It’s no secret that people love their pets, and a local artist is giving a new option when it comes to showcasing your love for your furry friends.

Amy Hooper, the artist behind Knotty Skeins, creates custom pet portraits with 2-D needle felting, which is also known as painting with wool.

Hooper explained that she makes her artwork by using a barbed needle to push sheep’s wool fibers into a background. The artist said she blends colors of the wool just like an acrylic painter would do in order to create highlights and lowlights.

Hooper mentioned that she always starts with the eyes. It takes Hooper about a week to complete one of her wool portraits.
