Kids can put on their running shoes and learn life lessons thanks to a special program from the YMCA, and coaches are also needed to lead the program called Girls on the Run.
“Girls on the Run is all about encouraging and empowering girls to be their best possible selves,” said Jamie Jackson, a coach with Girls on the Run. “We have a research-based curriculum that we use that encourages girls to lead with their heart. It teaches them how to stand up for themselves or others. It teaches them about personal fitness and wellbeing, assuming positive intent, and just overall good health and fitness skills.”
To be a coach for the Girls on the Run program, you have to be at least 18 years old and must go through a background check and free training. Coaches are also required to make a time commit of coaching twice a week for the entire season, along with attending the 5K at the end of the season.
Registration for coaches is open until Friday, September 20th. Registration is open through October 4th for participants for Girls on the Run program, and participants for a boys’ program called Pace.
