From Hayrides to haunts, lots happening around Metro Detroit

The weekend will be packed with fun happenings

The summer-like weather makes it hard to believe, but Fall is upon us and this weekend there’s plenty events to help celebrate the season.

First, if you’re up for an enchanted walk through the forest, head to Commerce Township. Glenlore Trails is opening for the season with an “Enchanted” themed forest experience. This immersive and illuminated experience will feature one mile of dazzling displays, lights, wonder and sounds. The event runs select evenings through November 3rd.

Next add some funky art in you life. The Funky Ferndale Art Fair returns for its 20th year this weekend. The fair features more than 140 artists displaying unique designs, including paintings, clay, fiber, and more. The fair runs Friday through Sunday in Downtown Ferndale.

In celebration of the upcoming fall season, the Harvest Fest at Palmer Park will return. The annual event features hay and pony rides, a petting zoo, music, arts and crafts, food, African dance and other performances, and of course apples and donuts. The festival is happening Saturday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Spooky season is just around the corner and there’s a free event to welcome the fright. Eloise Haunted Asylum in Westland is hosting the Haunted Harvest. The event will feature something for the entire family with activities ranging from spooky fun, to trill-seeking scares. It’s happening Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lastly, get out your walking shoes for a great cause. Autism Alliance of Michigan will host the Autism Hero Walk at the Detroit Zoo. The event, in its 10th year, will feature arts and crafts, more than 50 vendors, and entertainment. Registration is open through Friday, and donations are still being accepted. The walk is happening Saturday 7 a.m. to Noon.
