A few years ago, 25 year old Diamond White of Detroit found herself in an impossible situation. “I needed stable housing and funding.. I came and talked to them about it,” White said.
By them she means the Detroit Phoenix Center, a non-profit in the city providing hope for teens and young adults facing homelessness. “We provide wrap around support through rental assistance, emergency housing interventions, and more,” Courtney Smith, Founder and CEO of Detroit Phoenix said.

She said they also have a drop-in center located inside the Franklin Wright building located on Woodward and West Grand Blvd. Those in need can access a shower, laundry facility, food pantry and receive essential items.
Since being introduced to the program more than 3 years ago, White has become a youth advocate with Detroit Phoenix. She has traveled with the organization to different cities speaking with officials and advocating for youth who are experiencing homelessness. “Helping makes me feel good,” White said.
