Gear up to celebrate the iconic Model T

It’s the 116th anniversary of the car that changed the world

This weekend, the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Museum in Detroit will celebrate a monumental milestone in automotive history, the 116th anniversary of the Model T. This game changing vehicle, which first hit the streets in the fall of 1908, revolutionized transportation and set the stage for the modern automobile industry.

“Live in the D” reporter Lauren Turner took a ride in a 1915 Model T with museum trustee Steve Shotwell. Shotwell highlighted the Model T’s significance, saying that it was not only the best-selling car of its time but also the world’s first automobile to reach mass production, with over 15 million units produced.

The Ford Piquette Avenue plant, where the Model T was invented, played an imperative role in this transformation. Beyond just personal transportation, the Model T was adapted into many different forms, including firetrucks and snowmobiles.

Shotwell says the fun-filled day for all ages will feature free rides in Model T’s, car decoration contests, racing activities for kids, and even a birthday cake to honor the iconic car.
