Are you ready to get funky with Average White Band?
They are behind songs like “Pick Up the Pieces” and “Cut the Cake”, and now Average White Band is bringing their music to the stage in Detroit.
When asked what keeps bringing Average White Band back to Motown, founding member Alan Gorrie said that Detroit hasn’t been able to get enough of the band.
“Perhaps it’s got a lot to do with the fact that we struck a nerve with the kind of funk we made back in the 70s and continued doing throughout the 80s, 90s, and so on,” Gorrie said. “We just kind of never stopped.”
Average White Band is among the most sampled music acts in history. Their music has influenced artists like the Beastie boys, TLC, and Ice Cube.
Average White Band will perform at the Music Hall Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, Oct. 5th. Tickets can be purchased online.
