There’s a saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” but experts say, that isn’t true. Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane stopped by “Live in the D” to share some tricks to help you be successful with your pet. “It is possible with a lot of patience and positivity,” to teach tricks to dogs Vesterfelt said. She said you should first find out what motivates your dog, followed by the following tips on teaching your dog.
- Use positive reinforcement-encourage them, never punish them if it takes a little longer than expected for them to learn.
- Use what motivates your dog as an incentive. If they like toys or treats, give as a reward.
- Walk your dog through the process and be patient.
