The Upright cocktail lounge inside Oak and Reel invites guests to step back in time and experience the allure of Detroit’s past with its upcoming Prohibition-themed event. Set in a moody atmosphere with dim lighting and haunting melodies, this evening promises to transport attendees to an era of mystery, adventure, and forbidden cocktails.
Bartender Rebecah Hunter stopped by “Live in the D” to share more about the event, which will take place on Sunday, October 27th. Hunter explained that this gathering is part of their ongoing vinyl series, with this month’s focus on jazz music—a fitting backdrop for the Prohibition era.
One of the featured drinks Hunter showcased is “The Last Word,” a cocktail with deep roots in Detroit’s history, originally crafted in the 1920s. Along with this iconic drink, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of other Prohibition-era cocktails, while learning about the stories and legends of the city’s speakeasy past.
In addition to the drinks, light snacks will be provided, and attendees are encouraged, though not required, to don period-inspired attire for an extra layer of authenticity. The event promises to be an immersive celebration of Detroit’s storied history, blending craft cocktails with a jazz-infused atmosphere for a one-of-a-kind experience.
