On November 27th, audiences nationwide will be transported back to Oz with the long-awaited theatrical release of “Wicked,” the movie adaptation of the beloved musical that explores what happened before Dorothy’s whirlwind arrival in Munchkinland.
To build anticipation for the film, Birmingham’s Derby Middle School cast of “The Wizard of Oz” stopped by “Live in the D” to share their excitement about their upcoming performance. Cast members Lucy Murphy (The Wicked Witch), Elana Phelps (Glinda), Sloane Jackson (Dorothy), and their director, John Hummel, talked about what it means to bring this timeless story to the stage.
“I’m so excited to play Dorothy,” Jackson shared. “She goes to Oz looking for her heart, looking for a home and a place where she belongs, and she has to realize there’s no place like home.”
The production features a talented ensemble of 60 students, ranging from seasoned performers to newcomers, all bringing their energy and enthusiasm to the story. Audiences can experience the magic live from November 8-10 at Seaholm High School.
