Set the table to impress your guests this holiday season

Expert shares advice for tablescaping

It’s the time of year where people start thinking about gatherings and welcoming friends and family into their homes. So, are you ready to impress your guests this season?

Arthur White of A&E Decor appeared on “Live In The D” to share some advice about the art of tablescaping. White talked about a variety of the elements that create a memorable tablescape.

White started by talking about flowers, which are often the centerpiece of a table. He suggests doing arrangements that are low in height. White explained that a common mistake people make is having big arrangements where you can’t see guests across the table. Instead, he suggests low arrangements that might incorporate a punch bowl or soup terrain.

When it comes to colors this time of the year, White suggests harvest colors such as orange, green, and gold.

Another important element of a tablescape is the plates. Even if you have simple white entrée plates, you can still dress them up. White suggests adding a salad plate that incorporates some drama. You can also integrate color with chargers, napkins, and napkin holders.

White shared that he likes to do place cards for guests at all of his dinners. He said it makes guests feel like they’re being personally invited.

If you’re looking for even more advice, White will be part of a special event called Gathering at the Michigan Design Center in Troy on Friday, Nov. 8th.
