Donate in a new way at a familiar place

Red Kettle season is starting to ring in

It is the sound that helps ring in the holiday season every year. The bells at the Salvation Army Red Kettle have started to ring, and this year there‘s a new way to make a contribution. Major Charlotte Hall, General Secretary and Metro Detroit Area Commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division, stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about ways to donate this year.

“This year we have a tip- tap option,” Hall said. She said anyone wanting to give, can scan their phone on the board attached to the kettle. This option is not available at all locations, but Hall said you will see them in and around the metro Detroit area.

She said there’s also a text to give option. Just text the word “gift” to 24365. This can be done at anytime of the year.

Hall said this year’s goal is to raise $7 million, and although they welcome all donations, they also need volunteers willing to offer their time to help. There are 2 hour shifts, and virtual volunteer options available.
