Family safety and comfort at your finger tips

Staying in touch is one thing, staying secure is another

When it comes to holiday gifting, technology can typically be high on the list, especially when it comes to kids and their electronic devices like phones and tablets. While it’s exciting to see those faces light up with a gift for the holidays, you also want to make sure that devices are secure and being used in a safe way. Verizon says it wants the same for its customers and parents, and they shared how they’re helping with this thanks to a new app.

“We need to make sure we educate,” said Andy Brady, Verizon Market President. “Everyone of us as parents are going through this, sometimes for the first time, and if we can help anyone out then wonderful.”

Something new they shared is the Verizon Family App which has new features to help monitor use and location of kids on devices. “Your going to have a family map so you can then take a look at where everybody is,” said Andy Choi, Verizon Tech Expert.

You can also set school hours, see how fast someone is driving, or even check-in on how kids are conversing with their friends. “Using this isn’t meant to police your children,” said Choi. “This is a way for you to have meaningful conversations and we hope that it opens up the door to more conversations.”

Verizon is also giving back to veterans this holiday season. Brady said there’s a large portion of veterans in the Detroit area that carry about six million dollars in medical debt. “So, we’ve decided that every week we (Verizon) are going to pay off $250,000 in debt for a million dollars total over the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
