Tips to keeping pets safe this holiday season

Expert gives advice on pet safety and holiday décor

The stocking might be hung by the chimney, and the holiday lights shining bright, but some decorations could be dangerous for your pets this holiday season. Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane stopped by “Live in the D” to share helpful information to keep your pets safe.

“Cats especially are the ones that are going to want to play with the sparkly stuff,” Vesterfelt said. She said in order to prevent a visit to the Vet, keep the following tips in mind for all pets.

  • Keep pets away from pine needles and standing Christmas tree water.
  • Choose ornament placement carefully. Up high where its not easily accessible to pets.
  • Avoid tinsel.
  • Poinsettias, lilies, and mistletoe can be toxic to pets.
  • Beware of candles, try battery operated options.

Vesterfelt said following these tips can help keep pets safe and everyone can enjoy their holidays.

She also brought an adorable 7 month old kitten with her named Blackberry who is available for adoption. The Mike Morse Law Firm will pay standard adoption fees for todays pet of the week.
