When you get a cup of coffee, you may not realize the potential for opportunity behind it. Gather and Grounds works to create an inclusive and beneficial work environment for young adults with intellectual disabilities. This initiative runs out of a larger program called Rising Stars Academy.
“I remember there was a kid that started a couple of years ago and when he first started, he wouldn’t talk to anyone. He was super quiet, and I remember walking by maybe six months later and he was on stage performing in a play.” said executive pastry chef, Andrew Campell.
The coffee shop is a bistro during the day and helps provide a social space for young adults with special needs and all community members once it closes.
