A Detroit ceramics artist is sharing his passion and knowledge with others through workshops.
“I want people to touch the clay, feel it, and do a little bit of healing along the way,” explained artist Ricky Blanding who is the founder of Ricky Blanding Ceramics.
Blanding’s own journey in the world of ceramics started when he was on a tour of the art department in Lahser High School.
“I was in a computer room when I looked in the back and saw the most industrial looking door ever. I walked through, and it was this state-of-the art ceramics studio, and I just remember making a choice right then and I was like - I’m going to do this for the rest of my life,” Blanding said.
“I remember feeling a sense of freedom and knowing that this medium rested at the junction of art and science,” he explained.
