A world-renowned conservationist is visiting metro Detroit and other U.S. cities for a one-month tour to bring to light efforts to save the world’s fastest land animal. Dr. Laurie Marker, who was born in Michigan, is the founder and executive director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund. The organization is currently headquartered in Namibia.
Marker appeared on “Live In The D” to talk about the importance of saving the less-than 7,000 cheetahs remaining in the world.
“Our work really involves working with communities on land in which the cheetah lives,” said Marker. “We do things like farmer training, because livestock farmers are on land where cheetahs are found. “ She goes on to say they do a lot of research programs, especially considering they are a research organization.
Marker will host a lecture at Oakland University April 14th. It’s one of 15 cities Marker will visit during her tour in the United States. For more details, click on the video player above.
