Local teacher helps students become entrepreneurs

Raising funds to continue her work

Teachers are some of the most influential people in the lives of children. It’s especially true for teenagers who are thinking about their future career paths. A metro Detroit high school teacher is working to help students who believe the college path might not be for them.

“We want to provide that mentorship, that support, those resources for them to be successful,” said Lorri Lewis-English, who teaches at Southfield Public Schools.

Lewis-English created a nonprofit called The Direct Heir Foundation to support high school students who have a vision and a hustle, helping them launch real businesses with real seed money.

She is hoping to continue her efforts by hosting a fundraising fashion show brunch at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. It takes place Saturday May 3rd at 12pm.

It’s a celebratory fundraiser that supports these young entrepreneurs and features models from age 5 to 70+, 10+ Black-owned vendors, and a powerful message about what success can look like outside of traditional paths.
