There’s a phrase that “everyone is an artist,” and soon young artists will be able to showcase their creations at a new children’s art gallery opening in Detroit.
The art gallery will be inside the Butzel Family Center on Kercheval Ave., which will also be the new headquarters for Detroit’s Office of Arts, Culture, & Entrepreneurships.
“I said if we’re going to have our headquarters here, we want to celebrate these beautiful young artists that I’ve seen around the city who are doing work that it looks like adults have done it,” said Rochelle Riley, the Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Detroit.
There is a call for young artists to submit their artwork to be featured at the new children’s art gallery. The theme of the exhibit will be “This is How We Do It: Detroit Youth Look to the Future”.
There will be about 20 pieces of art featured in the exhibit, Riley explained.
There is also a contest to name the gallery, which is slated to open on May 16th.
