For more than 100 years, Goodwill Detroit has helped provide quality services to the community’s most vulnerable members. Now they’re expanding their ability to help the community with the opening of a new store and donation center.
“We are much more than a thrift store, we’re actually a charitable organization,” said Dan Varner, President and CEO for Goodwill of Greater Detroit.
He tells “Live in the D” host Tati Amare, their mission is to build pathways of independence to community members through personal development and the power of work.
The organization helps individuals who may have a difficult time finding employment, find jobs, and helps keep them employed. “We run multiple career centers in our 5-county region,” Varner said.
In addition to helping community members find jobs, Goodwill also employs them in various places, including their thrift stores, and they have a new location opening in Southfield. “People should get there early, there will be a line,” said Jeff Ukrainec, Vice President of Donated Goods Retail for Goodwill of Greater Detroit.
The new store - located at 28901 Greenfield in Southfield - opens, April 24th at 9 a.m.
