What’s the impact of relying on AI?

Friends of “Live In The D” weigh in

People keep hearing more and more about artificial intelligence and the idea that AI will just keep getting smarter and smarter, but what does that mean for the minds’ of the people who are relying on AI?

The impact of AI was the topic of conversation for What’s The Buzz on “Live In The D” Monday. Host Tati Amare and Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan were joined by Local 4 Promotions Producer Jack Roskopp and Motor City Date Night creator Vanessa Cohen.

“I’m kind of terrified of AI, ”Jack said.

Meanwhile, Vanessa reiterated that she uses AI every single day.

A Common Sense Media survey from September 2024 found that 70 percent of teens in the U.S. had used at least one type of generative AI tool and more than half said they’d used AI to help with homework.

Jack said he doesn’t consider using AI cheating if you’re using it as a tool to help you or spark ideas, but he doesn’t think that’s the case if you’re using it to write a paper for you.

Vanessa compared it to using an encyclopedia and then advancing to websites.

“I think where we are right now is you have to learn how to leverage it because it’s going to be used,” she said.

“I will say it does make me lazy,“ Vanessa said.
