May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and pets can help your mental health more than you might think.
Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane appeared on โLive In The Dโ to share some of the ways that pets can help your mental health.
She talked about how pets can help get you moving, and exercise can help boost your mood. Vesterfelt also mentioned that the routine of caring for your pet can be beneficial for your mental health.
โHaving that routine and that structure can help you and the pet as well,โ Vesterfelt said.
Another perk of having a pet is that it can encourage you to socialize by going to the dog park and meeting people.
Finally, pets make you feel good and can build your self-confidence, she said.
Michigan Humane has multiple pets that are up for adoption. Watch the video above to meet an adorable kitten named Mr. Potato Head who is in need of a forever home.
