Metro Detroit – The weekend is just a day away, and I’m sure we’re feeling the vibes. If you’re looking for something to do in and around Detroit, there’s plenty happening for just about everyone.
First up, the free outdoor movie series in Campus Martius Park kicks off Friday. Every Friday through August 22, a different family-friendly movie will be shown. This week, “Mufasa: The Lion King” is screening. Movies start at 7 p.m.
Sticking with the movie theme. The Detroit-based Arts Collective and Archive, The Black Canon, along with the Motor City Cinema Society, presents a rare chance to view black-centered 16 MM films.
The screening will feature TV clips and music performances from iconic black figures like Nina Simone and BB King. It’s happening on Saturday, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. inside Newlab at Michigan Central in Detroit.
The hot spot Parker’s Alley in Downtown Detroit, is getting an upgrade.
It’s known for offering a unique Detroit experience, like cool shops, dining and more.
Visitors will see fresh new logos, signage, fixtures, furniture and more. A celebration to kick it all off is happening on Saturday with artisan markets, games, live music and more. The fun is happening from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The Berkley Art Bash is taking place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Downtown Berkley.
The event will feature over 180 artists displaying one-of-a-kind pieces, from paintings to garden art, pottery and more. There will also be food trucks and kids’ activities.
