It’s the season for fireworks, and although you might love the bright and colorful displays that fill the sky, it can be a stressful time for pets.
Gillian Hanton with Michigan Humane shared some tips to make it easier on your furry friends.
Keeping your pet calm starts before the fireworks go off. Hanton suggests having your pet get a lot of exercise during the day so they’re tired in the evening and may even sleep through the fireworks.
Another suggestion is to provide a safe space for your pet such as a calm, dark spot to go during fireworks. Using white noise or calming music may help to drown out the noise of the fireworks.
Long-lasting treats can be used to distract dogs during fireworks. Pet parents can also ask the vet about calming aids.
Keep in mind that it’s important to secure your home and make sure your pet’s microchip information is updated.
Hanton also introduced an adorable puppy named Onyx. Watch the video above to meet him, or click here to learn about other adoptable pets at Michigan Humane.
