A trip to the grocery store feels like a mugging because of inflation.
There’s no such thing as a quick and easy run through the grocery store anymore.
So, how do you help yourself? Take a step back, slow down and get serious.
Tips to save money at the grocery store
- Shop at a grocery store close to home. Don’t drive miles to save pennies.
- Plan your trip in advance: This means planning meals for the week, or even two weeks. Make a list and follow it. No impulse buying unless it’s a great deal.
- Shop the sales flyers and comparison shop other stores. You’re especially looking for good deals on protein and things you can freeze.
- Use proteins that go a long way: Beans, legumes, eggs, unflavored Greek yogurt.
- Keep staples handy: Eggs, milk, cheese, frozen vegetables, whole grain pastas, cereal. You can whip up creative meals with leftovers using these.
- Sample store brands of items you use often. Often times they are the same item as a brand name, sometimes they’re not very good. Test them out.
