DETROIT – Four men and a woman wanted for a string of robberies were fleeing police in a car, going 100 mph when the vehicle smashed into a house on Detroit's east side, according to police.
A woman and a man in the car were killed, three others are in critical condition and a bystander was hurt. Police said they believed the people in the car were involved in gang activity.
Detroit police officers said they saw a car at Jefferson Avenue and Chalmers Street that had been wanted in connection with multiple break-ins and robberies on the east side.

Police said that, when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver hit the gas. Just a block later, he struck a Buick and then plowed into Chery Chambliss' home, police said.
The car crashed into the house and ignited on impact, according to police. Police worked to pull all five people out of the car, but they only were able to rescue three. Two people were killed upon impact.
The fire spread to the basement of the home, and Detroit firefighters responded and put out the flames, officials said.
Brandon Johnson said he was in his office at St. John Congregational when he looked up.
"I saw the speeding vehicle that was involved in the accident doing about 100 mph," Johnson said.
The car took out part of Chambliss' home and the fire department had to brace it.
