DETROIT – A 2-year-old was forcefully taken from her aunt’s home Tuesday morning at knifepoint on Detroit’s west side prompting an Amber Alert and was found safe after a pursuit.
Sondra Renee was taken at about 2:30 a.m. from a home in the 21000 block of Karl Street.
The little girl is now home with only some bumps and bruises.
Police said 42-year-old Grady Lamar Barrett went to the home with a weapon and took Sondra with him. He is not the biological parent and is the boyfriend of Sondra’s mother. A machete was seen sitting on the dashboard of the suspect's vehicle after the chase ended.
Sondra's mother, Gloria Camper, said it all started with a fight with Barrett, her boyfriend.
She said he punched and choked her Monday night. While she was at the hospital, Barrett, who is not Sondra's biological father, took her.
The little girl was with Camper's sister at the time, and Camper heard the abduction through the phone.
"All I hear is, 'You can't come in here like that. Put the knife down,'" she said.

The vehicle was found on I-75 just north of the Ohio border. Police began pursuing the suspect in Monroe and chased him to Detroit.
“They engaged in a pursuit that lasted quite some time, about 50 minutes, through several cities and counties,” Detroit Police Deputy Chief David LeValley said.
Speeds reached upwards of 100 miles per hour.
The chase ended in a crash on Meyers Road just south of 7 Mile Road.
Two people were taken into custody. The second person, a woman, has not been identified.
No troopers or officers were injured in the pursuit.
Sondra told her mother that she was assaulted by Barrett while he had her.
