Mother Asks For Justice After 2 Sons Die

Mother's Son Dies After Being Hit By Car; Second Son Shot During Carjacking

DETROIT – A Detroit mother is asking for help in helping find justice and closure after the shooting death of her son, which comes almost two years after another son was hit and killed by a car.

Jackie Horne said tragedy first struck when one of her sons was killed in October 2009 after getting hit by a car in Detroit. Then, on June 20 of this year, her 22-year-old son Michael Perkins was shot dead during a carjacking.

Detroit police said two men threw Perkins out of his Mercury Marquis while it was parked on the 16800 block of Ardmore Street, shot him and then left him for dead in the street.

"I would not like to see another parent go through what I have been trough in the last two years, with the loss of two boys," the 49-year-old mother said.

Horne said anyone with information on her two sons' deaths should call police, not only for her benefit, but for the community's.

"It's not going to stop until someone comes forward, until someone speaks up and tells what they know," she said. "We have to be our brother's keeper, we have to have unity in this city for us to go further. This happened to us and this may happen to you next. You never know."
