Police said they arrested a 23-year-old man Wednesday evening in Clinton Township in connection her death.

Kevin Charles said he was living with the man. Charles said the man started telling him about how he killed Chupick. Charles recorded the confession and gave it to Royal Oak police.

"Having a person that you allowed in as a guest in your home come to you and tell you that they have done such a horrible thing is a really difficult thing to handle," Charles said. "He eventually told me the story."

Charles said the man had been staying with him for the past few weeks. He said the man had become distraught and started telling him about killing Chupick. Charles began secretly recording the conversation on his phone.

"Within 25 minutes I notified law enforcement and made sure I kept him around until he could be apprehended," Charles said.

Chupick is mourned by he ex-husband and son.

"My mother was more than a friend to me," said Jacob, Ranae Chupick's 16-year-old son. "She was a very strong woman."

Her ex-husband, Robert Chupick, said despite their history, the two had remained friends.

"We were good friends. She was the mother of my son. She's gone," he said.

Robert Chupick said his ex-wife had told him she was uneasy about a man she had been dating on and off.

"There were probably three people she had mentioned to me, constantly. (She said) 'If something happens to me, this is the guy,'" he said.
