Joe Vicari, owner of the Andiamo's restaurant chain, has taken over the restaurant and said he is trying to make the new Joe Muer's look and feel just like the old one that was on Gratiot Avenue, which closed in 1998.
"Somebody that walks into the new restaurant will say 'Wow, this looks just like the old one,' and that's what we are trying to achieve," Vicari said.
The restaurant is in the space formally occupied by Seldom Blues.
Designer Ron Rea designed the new restaurant. He said it has a raw bar, a sushi bar and piano bar.
"There are three different experiences right in here, with a big center of a liquor display, of cooking and of sushi," Rea said. "That, alone, is a business."
