Women accused of using counterfeit bills at Livonia store

Police say women bought items, then returned them for cash

DETROIT – Two women are facing charges for allegedly purchasing thousands of dollars in merchandise from a store with counterfeit bills.

Livonia police said 20-year-old Shane Edwards and 27-year-old Shanique Edwards are accused of using the fake $50 bills this week at a Target store on Plymouth Road. They are accused of buying electronics with the fake money and then going straight to the store's customer service and returning the merchandise for cash.

The store's loss prevention officers noticed the two's actions and called police. They were arrested in the parking lot.

Shane Edwards is charged with one count of uttering and publishing-possession of counterfeit notes with intent to utter and publish and one count of uttering and publishing counterfeit bills and notes. Shanique Edwards is charged with the same counts but also is facing a retail fraud charge.

Police said they are still looking into where the counterfeit money came from.
