According to Madison Heights police, 33-year-old Clarence Hammond was killed just steps away from his front door after he arrived home from work late Friday night.

"He had a set schedule. He didn't go anywhere or do nothing, so that's why I don't understand. He didn't do anything to anybody," said LaToya Hubbard, Hammond's sister.
Family members wonder what motive someone would have to kill him.
"He had no enemies that we know of. He was a good family man and educated," said Regina Duley, Hammond's cousin.
The family said Hammond prevented trouble and mentored young men to keep them from being trouble makers. Hammond worked as a corrections officer in Macomb County. He leaves behind two young sons, 4-year-old Chance and 5-year-old Shiloh.
"He spent more time at Chuckie Cheese than anything," said Hubbard.
Madison Heights police have not released a cause of death; they have only said that it happened at his apartment near 14 Mile and John R. roads around midnight. One resident, who did not want to be identified, said he heard trouble around that time.
"I heard somebody screaming. I thought I heard a gunshot or two," said the resident.
"We just really need some help, any help. It's hard on a family," said Duley.
Police tell Local 4 that the motive may have been an unsuccessful robbery, but the family believes if that was true the killer would have taken Hammond's new car.
No arrests have been made, but police are following up on various leads.
