Grosse Pointe Park woman's death remains mystery

Jane Bashara, 56, found dead Wednesday in SUV in Detroit

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. – Family and friends gathered Wednesday night to remember a Grosse Pointe Park woman who was found dead in her sports utility vehicle earlier in the day in Detroit.

A candlelight vigil was held on the front lawn of Grosse Pointe South High School where 56-year-old Jane Bashara's children graduated. She was involved in the school district and community.

"Obviously a horrific tragedy," said Mike Skaff, Bashara's cousin. "We're shocked. It's an unspeakable tragedy, honestly."

Bashara was found in an alley Wednesday morning in the area of Pinewood Avenue and Annott Street in Detroit. A tow truck driver found the woman inside the SUV which he had come to tow.

"And she was a wonderful, kind, giving person," said friend

She worked as a marketing executive for Kema. Her office is located in Detroit's New Center area. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the office building.

Family said she left work at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. She arrived home in Grosse Pointe Park at about 6 p.m.

Her husband, Bob, arrived home about 8 p.m. His wife wasn't there.

He reported her missing at 11 p.m. that night.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday to try to determine a cause of death.

"There is not much information that has been released so far," said Skaff. "We're eager to hear what happened and hopefully get the perpetrators brought to justice."
