No charges will be filed against Jefferson Middle School teacher

Teacher had been accused of exchanging texts with 9th-grader

No description found

MONROE, Mich. – The Jefferson Middle School math teacher, boys track coach and assistant girls track coach will not face charges in an incident stemming from an investigation into whether or not he had been carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a ninth grade girl at the nearby high school.

Police alerted Local 4 Thursday that even though they'd sent the case to the Monroe County prosecutor for review, the prosecutor has decided to not authorize any charges.

The investigation was initiated by the middle school principal who witnessed what appeared to be inappropriate physical contact between the 48-year-old married teacher and the young girl in surveillance video.

The two appeared to be seen hugging and the girl planted a kiss on the teacher's cheek.  Affectionate text messages between the two were also found on the young girl's cell phone.  But the messages were not sexual in nature, only described by sources as being affectionate in nature.  But the facts did not support a charge of criminality and so the teacher is no longer being investigated by police.
