SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 32-year-old sex offender from Ferndale was arrested Thursday in Shelby Township. Police said the man had been following a female student to the bus stop in front of the Crystal Lakes Apartment complex.
The suspect, John Robert Galvan, was driving an older model Cadillac DeVille and drove by the bus stop at 23 Mile Road and Dequindre several times around 7:45 a.m.
"She was walking to the school bus," Lt. Stanley Muszynski of the Shelby Police Department said, "He approached her and started some small talk with her. He asked her some personal information. She refused to give him any information and kept walking."
The group of 7th through 9th grade students from Mallow Junior High got the suspect's license plate, told their bus driver, who then called police.
Galvan is charged with operating while intoxicated, second offense, and loitering in a school safety zone.
