Masked men quickly smash into, rob Port Huron jewelry store Rick Currie Gold Smith

Police say distinct SUV is glaring clue to Port Huron jewelry store heist suspects

PORT HURON, Mich. – Police in Port Huron are asking for the public's help in their search for four men who smashed their way into a jewelry store early Monday morning.

The thieves launched a concrete block through the front door of Rick Currie and Son Master Gold Smith. Surveillance video from the jewelry store shows the four masked thieves swinging hammers at display cases. They grabbed dozens of rings.

They quickly filled bags with jewelry and left in less than a minute.

As a family-owned business in Port Huron for more than two decades, Michelle Laubert said this was the first time their store has been targeted by thieves.

Laubert has a message: All of their customer jewelry was locked in a safe. The thieves never touched those valuables.

Port Huron police are working the case. Det. Keith Merritt said they have one glaring clue: The thieves fled in a distinct four-door sports utility vehicle.

The thieves spent about a minute in the store but they left behind thousands of dollars in damage.

A reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information should call Port Huron police at 810-984-9710.
