The 44-year-old was on duty last February when he separated an exotic dancer from her husband in domestic dispute, according to police. He then took her to a hotel where they had sex. The woman claims Paravas raped her, but Paravas said the sex was consensual.

Paravas resigned from office in March of 2011 and was charged in May.

His attorney plans to appeal the conviction.
