DETROIT – The two teenagers arrested for the murder of a young father at a Detroit Coney Island were charged Monday.

Jerome Newell, 19, and Anthony Shell, 18, were arrested in the case of a deadly carjacking that killed 23-year-old Wyman Shaver on July 12.

Police say Shaver was in the Olympia Coney Island parking lot when the two teens ordered him out of his 2004 Range Rover.

Shaver was then shot in the chest and died from his injuries.

Both teens were found and arrested shortly after the shooting in the garage where the vehicle was also found, according to police.

Newell and Shell both face charges ranging from homicide to arson.

Family has message for suspects and Detroit

Shaver's family says Wyman was in nursing school and he worked hard for everything he had.

After the hearing, Shaver's family spoke on the tragedy that claimed their loved one's life.

"I didn't have a whole lot of faith in the judicial system, but this time I have to commend them," says Sheila Shaver, Wyman's mother.

Sheila would like the city of Detroit to "pull it together."

"Detroit we're in trouble...Let's get it together. Forgive and forget, let it go. It's not worth it," says Sheila.

Desiray Shaver is Wyman's sister.

"Y'all killed my brother. To take something from him, that he worked for and you could have done the same thing," says Desiray. "It would have taken you a few years, because it took him a few years to get it, but he had what he wanted because he worked for it."

Shelia would like parents to learn from this and get more involved in their children's lives.

"Parents, hug your kids. Talk to them, see what they're in to. Be interested, because it's so important," says Shelia.

A fund has been set up in Shaver's name at all Metro Detroit Chase banks.
