PONTIAC, Mich. – A West Bloomfield man will spend the next 50 months to 20 years behind bars for stealing from Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac.

Reuben Bynum, 61, was the chief financial officer of the church where he is convicted of embezzling $650,000.

Bynum was sentenced in Oakland County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

An earlier investigation uncovered Bynum forged signatures on checks from the church and misused the church ATM and debit cards.

Along with the prison sentence, a judge ordered Bynum to pay nearly $800,000 in restitution to the church.

Bynum admitted to stealing the money and apologized for the crime.
