School lockdowns lifted as Madison Heights police pursue robbery suspects

Police: Suspects rob Jared Jewelry store, flee in vehicle, then on foot; 1 in custody

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Two schools are on lockdown after an armed robbery at a nearby Jared Jewelry store at 14 Mile and John R. roads in Madison Heights.

The suspects fled in a vehicle after the robbery and police gave chase. The chase continued on foot after the suspects crashed their vehicle at 13 Mile and John R. roads. Police have made one arrest.

According to Lamphere Schools, nearby Hiller Elementary School and Page Middle School had been temporarily placed on lockdown. Madison Heights police say the schools were placed on precautionary lockdowns.

The students have been released.
