DETROIT – Former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who is in prison after being convicted on several federal corruption charges, has made a 3rd plea for his release.
Kilpatrick is arguing again that he is not a flight risk or a danger to the community. Judge Nancy Edmunds has twice rejected the former mayor's request for bond as he awaits sentencing.

"Although the crimes of which Defendant Kilpatrick has been convicted of are serious, his criminal history, family ties, size, notoriety, lack of finances and legitimate issues for appeal in this case make him no risk of flight," Kilpatrick's attorneys say in a request filed Monday.

On March 11, a federal jury found Kilpatrick and close friend Bobby Ferguson guilty on multiple counts including racketeering and conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors have been fighting the requests for bond ever since. Judge Edmunds has held firm on her decision to deny it.
