Flaherty suffered from Alzheimer's and dementia.
He was last seen at his home a half a mile from where his body was discovered.
Surveillance footage recovered from the area showed Flaherty walking southbound on Racho Road.
For two days, police used K-9 dogs, the Michigan State Police helicopter unit and auxiliary officers to comb the area near Flaherty's home.
"Our condolences go out to the Flaherty family," Chief Mary Sclabassi said. "We were hoping for a different ending."
Sclabassi says there was "no immediate signs of foul play" in Flaherty's death, but cautioned the cause of death has not yet been released from the medical examiner's office.
