Roof collapses at U.S. Steel in Ecorse

Collector main pipe collapses on roof

ECORSE, Mich. – A roof collapsed Thursday at the U.S. Steel in Ecorse.

A collector main pipe collapsed on the roof of what is called a bop shop, according to U.S. Steel officials.

The collector main is used for the company's air mixture control.

No injuries were reported. Officials said all personnel have been accounted for and the scene was clear Thursday night.

"U.S. Steel is going to have to do a controlled release of metal, which is called a beach," said Courtney Boone, of U.S. Steel. "It is a rare but controlled way for U.S. Steel to manage our operations."

Because of the collapse, U.S. Steel will have emergency personnel at the scene Thursday night.
