DETROIT – A double murder on Detroit's west side is impacting a lot of lives, including police officers.
They are making a plea to stop the violence.
"This stuff has to stop. This is not a scripted conversation I'm having. I'm getting tired of it," said Capt. Anthony Topp.
The emotion in Topp's voice was evident. There have been multiple shootings over the past week in Detroit. On Friday, there was a brutal double murder of a man and his girlfriend on Majestic Street. Friends and family aren't just devastated but frustrated, and so are police.
"If citizens know something, they got to start telling," said Topp. "They got to start coming to meetings. They got to start telling their families to stop acting like fools. This just has to stop."
Capt. Topp made his plea at the emotional scene on Majestic Street where a friend found 52-year-old Melvin Tucker and his 42-year-old girlfriend, Deena Edwards, shot to death inside Tucker's home.
"If you're out there, I want you to know that you have hurt an angel," said Pastor Alfred Calvert, who Edwards' own pastor.
Detroit police believe the victims may have known the person who shot them.
"We got to get ahold of this. We can't do it by ourselves. We're going to do the best we can, but we got to get the citizens involved in this," said Topp.
