ARMADA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An eighth-grade science teacher in Armada Township stands accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student.
Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Smith has charged Robert Yaek, 25, with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of distributing sexually explicit matter to children, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of possessing child sexually abusive material.
Yaek allegedly engaged in a series of sexual encounters with the female seventh-grade student between February and May of this year. Police said the acts reportedly took place in a closet adjacent to Yaek's classroom, and also at a rented house in Armada. It happened between February and May.
"We were blindsided. Mr. Yaek was well-respected by staff, parents, community. We were all shocked," said Michael Musary, superintendent.
Yaek also sent a number of explicit photographs of himself to the student's cell phone, police said. He since resigned from the Armada School District.
Yaek is expected to be arraigned in 42-1 District Court – Romeo later this week.
