DETROIT – A woman who worked in a doctor's office affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center has been charged with fraud for allegedly giving out personal information of patients, according to a federal criminal complaint obtained by Local 4.
The complaint states the woman, who worked out of a private practice that was affiliated with DMC in Farmington Hills, gave approximately eight billing records to a co-defendant in May under the promise that she would be paid $100 per useable profile. The billing sheets contain the names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of patients, which could be used to steal identities.
The complaint was filed Monday in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
