April Millsap remembered at Armada Fair

Pink garden way to pay tribute to teen whose body found 3 weeks ago

ARMADA, Mich. – It has been a Macomb County tradition for 142 years; the Armada Fair is one of the last true country fairs. There's a livestock auction, 4-H is out in force and the midway is filled with rides.

This year, there's a new addition. As you walk through the main gate, your eyes are drawn to a garden done in various shades of pink -- the favorite color of a 14-year-old girl who went out to walk her dog on the Macomb Orchard Trail and never came home.

It's now been three weeks since April Millsap was found beaten and strangled on the trail, and there is still no one in custody and no named person of interest.

People in Armada wonder whether her killer still walks among them. While her case is not at the top of the headlines anymore, what happened to her is very much on the minds of those who live in the area.

The beautiful pink garden is a way to pay tribute.

"I think it helps people. I think it shows the community that people have come together," said fairgoer Gail Wylin.

The overwhelming police presence has now left the village. No longer do you see police cruisers swarming the area, and there have been no more police roadblocks set up.

Sources told Local 4 there are still items and leads being tested and checked out, but some wonder whether the person responsible will ever be caught.
